Roller Coasters in Montana

Unlike Missouri, there aren’t very many roller coasters in Montana. In fact, there’s only one! And it’s a mountain coaster, so not even the regular kind. (But I really like these so I don’t mind.)

You can *kinda* ride the one roller coaster in Montana from home – but the video isn’t a good POV. Someone needs to post that on YouTube, stat!

Flathead Lake Alpine Coaster

The one roller coaster in Montana is the Flathead Lake Alpine Coaster. And it just opened this summer! (So before this year, there were no roller coasters at all!) It’s right next to Flathead Lake, so hopefully there’s a good view at the top – the only video I can find doesn’t show much.

The Flathead Lake Alpine Coaster and the whole Flathead Lake area is just south of Kalispell, and not too terribly far from White Fish and Glacier Mountain National Park.

Water Parks in Montana

There aren’t too many water parks in Montana, either. But there are several of those city-run aquatic centers, with a few slides.

• Big Sky Waterpark might be Montana’s only proper water park, located in Columbia Falls near Glacier National Park. According to their website, they have 7 slides. (Though according to the hand-drawn map also on their website, it could be as many as 10.) It seems like there might be a kid’s pool, possibly a hot tub, and a water balloon fight area, but otherwise, the rest of the attractions are “dry.” There’s mini-golf, bumper cars, a climbing wall, and an antique carousel. Admission is $30 and under for a full day, $25 for visits after 3 pm.

• Electric City Water Park in Great Falls is a city park with 3 slides, a lazy river, a kid’s splash zone, a climbing wall, and even a flow rider surfing simulator, though it’s not working this season. Passes cost $9 for adults and $6 for “youth,” though they don’t say what ages that covers.
• Splash Montana is the city of Missoula’s aquatics center with 3 big slides, a lazy river with a “wild” branch, a zero-depth entry pool, a larger pool with lap lanes, kid’s spray features, and some floating play structures. Adult prices are $8 for adults, $6.25 for ages 13-17 and 60+, $5.75 for ages 7-12, and $4.75 for ages 2-6.

• Woodland Water Park is the city pool for Kalispell. They have 2 slides, a splash area, lazy river, and a lap pool. Day passes are $7 and under, or $5 and under on Sundays and from 6:30-8:30.
• Reef Indoor Water Park in Billings has 2 slides, a wave pool, activity pool, and a splash tower. Located in the Big Horn Resort, hotel guests get in for $12 before 4 pm and $10 after. Non-guests pay $18 and under, or $16 after 4.

• Oasis Water Park in Billings is connected to a local church and has 2 slides, an activity pool, and a splash pad area. But admission is only available as season passes.
