Every year since 2016, I’ve been creating One Second Everyday (1SE) videos to capture my experiences over the course of a year. And it’s that time again to take a look back at 2023!
2023 1SE Video
In 2023, I continue housesitting (affiliate link, btw) all over the country, and this time I push all the way to the West Coast! I start the year around Austin, Texas and the cuddliest 200-lb doberman you’ll ever meet. Then it’s on to the mountains of Colorado (and very deep snow to shovel), even more snow in Utah, before reaching Washington state just in time for tulip season.
I have a lovely sit in the woods and near the ferries of upstate Washington, spend a few touristy days in Seattle, then spend a month in Boise, Idaho and do a lot of walking on their beautiful greenbelt.
In the summer, I visit a few theme parks – Lagoon in Salt Lake City, Silverwood in Idaho, Valleyfair and Nickelodeon Universe in Minneapolis, MN, and Six Flags Great America near Chicago. Then downtime in Ohio, fall in Asheville, NC, and Vermont, followed by a couple of days over the Canadian border in Niagara Falls, Ontario.
I head back for repeat sits in Ohio, South Carolina, and was even treated to a special Thanksgiving in Hilton Head! Finally, after all that travel, I go home to Chattanooga for the month of December to have Christmas at home.
As usual, there are a lot of pets in here, a lot of walking, several cross stitch projects (look out for some curse words!), many days on the road, plus lots of cooking, movies, and reading. It has been a very good year.
For past years, check out my YouTube channel or see below.
2022 1SE Video
2022 started at home in Chattanooga with long stretches in Pennsylvania – both in Philadelphia and the Amish countryside. I made a big push north, up to Massachusetts and Vermont, plus a week spent with friends in Acadia National Park in Maine and a flight to California to visit Disneyland.
A sit near Asheville prompted a full drive up and down the Blue Ridge Parkway, another highlight in a big year. Otherwise, there was lots of housesitting, pets, walking, reading, crafts, movies, cooking, and the rest of daily life and downtime. Some days you’re on top of Cadillac Mountain (in the fog, womp womp), and some days all you do is wash your car. I ended the year with Christmas in Texas.
2021 1SE Video
2021 was my first year of full-time travel. I started the year in Texas and New Mexico, then ranged all over from Colorado to Florida. There are a lot of pets and housesitting, plus learning how to trade on the stock market. Most of my summer was spent visiting several amusement parks, which I’ve written all about. Plus loads of movies, books, and crafts. Y’all know I’m an introvert, right? Movies, books, and podcasts are where I go to hide.
2020 1SE Video
2020 was a big year for all of us. Besides the emergence of Covid-19, Black Lives Matter protests, and electing a new president, 2020 is the year I quit my job and started traveling full time. The video below shows the wind-up of several projects at my house during the first half of the year (including digitizing our family’s records and cassette tapes.) Then basically, I dyed my hair pink and hit the road in August.
My first trip was to visit several civil rights sights through Alabama, ending in a stint on the gulf coast. Then I had back-to-back house sits in Florida, Ohio, South Carolina, Lookout Mountain, and Washington DC. And at the end of the year, I had to buy a new car! Apparently, my 15-year-old Honda couldn’t keep up with all my driving.
2019 1SE Video
2019 was the year my mom died and I moved from her house back to my own:
2018 1SE Video
2018’s videos came in two parts because I got a new phone in the fall of that year. And going from an iPhone to an Android Pixel 3 meant I couldn’t combine the two.
This was the year I sold everything I owned, rented out my house for the first time, and moved in with my mom.
2017 1SE Video
In 2017, I changed jobs until I landed on the last one I held. Plus, this is the year my cat died and when I started selling off my stuff in order to move in with Mom.
2016 1SE Video
2016 is the first year I started recording videos every day. It’s also the year I was let go from the job I held for 13 years and the year my dad died. SO, the last few years have been eventful, to say the least.
